On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad [PBUH], ifilm website presents you  emotional scenes from Majid Majidi's film 'Muhammad (PBUH): The Messenger of God', which have featured the birth of the prophet of mercy.

The Prophet of Islam (PBUH) was born on 17 Rabi-ul-Awwal -the third month in the Islamic calendar- in 570 CE. This year, the day fell on Sunday.

'Muhammad (PBUH): The Messenger of God' portrays the life of Islam’s Holy Prophet [PBUH] and narrates his early years in Mecca. This is the first part of a trilogy which seems to cover the entire life of the Prophet [PBUH].

A number of internationally-acclaimed professionals, including Academy Award winning visual effects supervisor and filmmaker, Scott E. Anderson, and three-time Oscar-winning Italian director of photography, Vittorio Storaro, collaborated in the making of the film.

The movie attracted a large number of audiences during its screening in Iranian cinemas and abroad, including in Russia, Turkey, Iraq and Azerbaijan.

The screenplay of the film, which is the biggest-budget production in Iranian cinema, was co-written by Majidi and Kambozia Partovi.

According to the Sunni narrative, the birth date of Prophet Muhammad [PBUH] falls on 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal while the Shias consider 17 Rabi-ul-Awwal as the exact birth date. As per a call made by the late Founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini, the week in between the two dates is marked each year as “the Islamic Unity Week” to promote convergence among Muslims.
